Fawaaz Basadien Joins Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have acquired a new player in the form of Stellenbosch FC defender, Fawaaz Basadien.

In a Twitter/X post shared on Saturday, 26 July, Sundowns confirmed the following:

“It’s time to get ready for a new season! Introducing our newest signing – the versatile & [sic] talented Fawaaz Basadien! Welcome to the Yellow Nation, Fawaaz.”

In a video posted to the platform the following day, Sunday 27 July, Basadien expressed his excitement about joining the Brazilians.

“Masandawana family, I’m happy to be here, and I can’t wait for you guys to fill up the stadiums and watch us win more trophies,” he said. “I’m proud to be yellow.”

Details regarding the 28-year-old defender’s contract length and salary remain undisclosed at this time.

Stellenbosch posted a statement on their website regarding Basadien’s new move. In it, they also commended him for his services on the pitch:

“Everyone at the club extends their sincere gratitude to Fawaaz for his professionalism, leadership and commitment during his time in the Maroon [sic] jersey. He departs with our appreciation and best wishes as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.”
